Weight Loss Strategies - Stop Making Excuses (Part 3 of 4)

Losing weight is not easy. It requires planning and perseverance. Along your weight loss journey, you will face many obstacles. The biggest obstacles you will face are your own excuses. The funny thing about excuses is that none of them have any merit. If you want to achieve your weight loss goals, you are going to have to stop making excuses and start making changes. To help you, here is a list of some common excuses people use to not lose weight and the reasons they do not have any merit.

I have been overweight my entire life.

You have been eating too much your entire life. That is not an excuse. That is a problem. Start eating less today and you will spend the rest of your life at a healthy weight.

Everyone in my family is overweight.

So you are not alone in your overeating. You will all be sicker and die earlier than you are supposed to. I challenge you to be the first to lose weight and keep it off. This will show everyone else in the family that they could lose weight also.

I have a slow metabolism.

A slow metabolism does not make you overweight. A slow metabolism makes it easier for you to gain weight and harder for you to lose weight. Blame your genetics and get over it. Eat less, lose weight and get on with your life. You should eat smaller meals more frequently to increase your metabolism. You should also try eating more lean protein and try resistance training to build more muscle.

I have hypothyroid. / I am post-menopausal. / I am old.

People with hypothyroidism, post-menopausal women and the elderly have slower metabolisms than younger and healthier people. That is not an excuse. Eat less and you will lose weight.

I have tried every diet. / Diets do not work for me. / I can't stay on a diet.

Most popular diets work. If you do not lose weight or if you gain the weight back, it's because you did not follow the diet. The diet did not fail you. You failed yourself. You must make a permanent decrease in your calorie intake. You must be consistent if you want to get the weight off and keep it off. You can do it. Focus on your personal long-term goals and believe in yourself.

It is really easy to sit down and make excuses for why you have not lost the weight you want to lose. It would be harder but more productive to stop making excuses and start strategizing solutions to help you drop the pounds and keep them off.
